Monday, Monday
The past few weekends have been gone before I knew it. This past one was spent with the lovely Swiffer Wet and our kitchen floor (there you go Mom), Vietnamese noodle soup, homemade marinara with mini meatballs, pumpkin ice cream milkshakes, new music, apple-vanilla air fresheners, and packing my first lunch in my new box.
On Saturday night I took two of my favorite little girls out to dinner and ice cream. In the car on the way home Cecilia (age 'almost' 7) was instructing us on how to play her newest game. She gave the long string of instructions and then asked us to raise our hands if we did not understand. Lillian (age 4) and I raised our hands immediately. She explained again and again asked us to raise our hands if we did not get it. Cecilia raised her own hand. The conversation that followed was priceless:
C: I don't even understand my own instructions to my own game!
L: It's ok, just explain it to yourself again.
That simple. It made me think about how easy it is to become frustrated with ourselves when we are unsure of our own paths - when the focus is placed primarily on our own futures and we still cannot seem to understand where we need to be. It made me think about how sometimes, in the middle of the maze, we need to take a deep breath and tell ourselves again.
Cecilia did explain it to herself one more time. We all played the game until we reached the door, ran for the bath, plopped into bed, and capped of the night with a few books.
This morning I rode my bike to work in very chilly and very wonderful weather feeling rather good about the week that lay ahead. Maybe this is because I know that even if I get confused or frustrated I can always just stop and tell myself how to play all over again.

words of wisdom from a seven year old. gotta love it. and I love that it's finally turning cold(at least it appears that's what's happening)

That is a pretty spiffy lunchbox. Too bad it doesn't come with the food pictured!
Neat post. I can't wait to hear all the things that Lucas comes up with once he can string sentences together that I can understand. I was talking to my mom today and he was babbling in the background and my mom kept saying "Oh he is talking what is he saying" and I kept saying "I have no clue" and my mom kept asking... like just because I am his mom I can decipher he secret baby babble.
